Chaka in a jazz setting. Playing the Joni Mitchell song "Man From Mars". The band had been playing a week long gig before this performance. Pretty damn tight and cohesive. This tune (video) in my opinion displays all of Vinnies best qualities. A unique and special ability to "phrase" on a drum set. Outstanding technical facility coupled with great musicality. Stellar musicianship by everyone involved on this. I believe this show is from 2001

I'm finding that with Vinnie it's he doesn't treat cymbals as a secondary thing like most drummers do. To him there more important than the drums. And he strokes them with such finesse - it's unparalleled in most modern players in my opinion.
It's so nice when a drummer cares about cymbals! It feels so good to me 😊
It's drumming mastery such as this that makes it so ridiculous when folks talk of Neil Peart as the "greatest drummer of all time" (with all due respect to NP!)

That song ended way too soon, they couldve kept going for at least another 4 minutes I bet.
Is this one of the best Vinnie displays of his brilliance I have ever seen? I think so. Wait for the instrumental section with keyboard lead, Vinnies pocket is down by his knees. He plays time so amazingly, does it like nobody else, arghh that snare is to die for. Of course not forget bass n keys also top notch.
VC is such a character on top of being one of the best. He makes it look so easy compared to say Buddy Rich who looks like he’s going to stroke out... he’s so cool.
